Doing our best

We had an experience this past week that has given me the opportunity to learn. While sitting in the living room with my husband, I heard a scratching sound. I looked towards the source, the fireplace, and saw a tiny baby bird scratching at the glass. Kevin asked me what should we do? Its going to die. We both decided that we must try to help it as best we could. Kevin opened the doors and scooped the baby bird up into a towel. He then carried it outside. The biggest delimma was what to do with it now that it was out of the fireplace. We knew if we put it on the ground it would surely die. We have a small birds nest in a hanging basket on our porch so we decided to place the baby in there. We had to pry his talons out of the terry cloth were his was gripping for dear life. We placed him in the basket. Over the next several hours he creeped into the nest. We thought all was safe. We glanced periodically out of the window and noticed he was outside the nest near the edge of the basket. We took the kids out to ride bikes later that afternoon and noticed the bird had fallen out of the basket. We were sad. We wanted this little bird to survive. Hunter dug worms out of the ground and tried to feed the poor little guy. It wouldnt eat. Eventually, the bird died despite our best efforts. Kevin came in to tell me the birdie died and I was truly sad. We did the best we could to help him. This made me stop to think, were we prolonging the inevitable? Did we even make a difference? We could have just left him in the fireplace and written him off. We couldnt because we tend to be animal lovers in our house. What about in life though? Do we sometimes write people off and do not try to help them because they are a "lost cause"? Do we do our best to help? I think we should do our best every day to be kind, loving, and helpful. Someone or something may be a "lost cause", but we may be able to do something. The same applies in parenting. We can help our children endless times, we can do things for them, but sometimes no matter how hard we try it doesnt save them or fix the problem. I truly believe its the struggle and the attempt that counts. We must try as hard as we can despite how things may turn out. What do you think?

It's a Dog's life!

video

Please ignore three year old little girl in the background who needs to pee in the gwass! Rhett loves swimming! He is getting up there at the ripe old age of 8! The early signs of hip dysplasia are setting in. We took him to Neeses for a fun filled vacay of his normal lazing around. It is approximately 5 days after vacay and Rhett is still not fully recovered! Poor thing!

Raindrops

If all the raindrops Were lemondrops and gumdrops

Oh, what a rain that would be!

Standing outside, with my mouth open wide

Ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah

If all the raindrops Were lemondrops and gumdrops

Oh, what a rain that would be!

If all the snowflakes Were candy bars and milkshakes

Oh, what a snow that would be!

Standing outside, with my mouth open wide

Ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah

If all the snowflakes Were candy bars and milkshakes

Oh, what a snow that would be!

If all the sunbeams Were bubblegum and ice cream

Oh, what a sun that would be!

Standing outside, with my mouth open wide

Ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah

If all the sunbeams Were bubblegum and ice cream

Oh, what a sun that would be!

I ate Ice Cream for dinner....nanny nanny boo boo

Sorry felt a little immature there! I upheld my promise by eating ice cream for dinner last night! Yee Haw! Last night rates as one of the best evenings I have had in a while. Not only were there friends, music, laughing, and great conversation there was sundae royal(e)'s (insert snap)! It's much fancier than calling it a plain ole royal sundae! I rode with my mother and Jayne to the super fabulous Kershaw County Show Choir Spring Showcase, this was a fantastic decision! We went with Laresa for ice cream afterwards, another fantastic decision. I watched the most talented performers and was amazed at the beauty. Each and every one of them was so beautiful it radiated out of their bodies. They were all from different backgrounds, different shapes, sizes, colors, creeds, and religions. Yet, all had the most beautiful souls that shone through in their love for singing. I was blown away! Mari, Tony, Jessica, and Sharon were so fabuloous! It was fun to watch them sing their hearts out. I felt like a proud MaMa even though none of them are my children! Some notes from the performance:
1. West ( I believe it is)- I must find out where you get your hair done because its super awesome! Also, he should really consider auditioning for Eclipse. He would make a great vampire with that baby face and cool bone structure!
2.Tony- SHOWSTOPPER
3.Mari-SHOWSTOPPER/HAM she looked so beautiful and nice booty shakin!
4.Jessica and Sharon- It was great to see a different side of the girls. They are typically very serious (atleast around me) it was great to see the loose, fun side!
5. All of the others were fantastic too! The personalities were fantastic!

One of the most amazing parts of this is there is no funding! DO WHAT? Yes, the director and most likely the parents have to come out of pocket for expenses. The students do not receive any high school credit, etc. They do it for the love of music and performing. It reminded me of when I was in high school and in drama. Zero funding! We built our own sets out of donated supplies and recyclables. We scrounged through the fine arts center, thrift stores, and our homes to find costumes. It was frustrating, but well worth it. It was difficult because the community doesn't emphasize the performing arts the way it should be. One year we had about 2-3 boys audition for a musical about a FOOTBALL TEAM! So, all the girls had to be football players (including yours truly) while the few boys accepted the lead male roles! Good thing it was a comedy! When I was in Grease we had more boys audition, but the guys that had great singing voices didnt audition. So one boy carried the powerful songs in the whole production. We had to ham up the bad singing and make it look like it was on purpose! Enough of that though! Great job everyone on the concert and I'll keep you updated on my ice cream meals! Hee Hee
